Recipe adapted from here
At this point in time, this is the meal I keep thinking about. If I was asked right now to pick one last meal to eat it would be this. It was fantastic. All the flavours came together in unison to create one fantastic dish. I was skeptical at first with the Ketchup, I really am not a Ketchup person, I love tomatoes but condiments, I don't know almost freak me out. However, when I tried the sauce, it was love at first taste. It opened up so many taste buds in my mouth it was like eating Indian food, it was just, amazing. I have spoken about this meal to so many people. If there is any cooking recipe you MUST try on my blog there is a tie between this and this. Oh I cannot wait to make this recipe again!
Ingredients:
- 1 block (420g) firm tofu
- 3 cloves garlic - pressed
- 1 tbs grated ginger
- 1 cup (about 8 stalks) green onion - chopped
- 2 tbs Oyster sauce
- 2 tbs tomato ketchup
- 1 tbs light soy sauce
- 1 tbs Ponzu sauce
- 1 tbs honey
- 3/4 cup water
Drain tofu. Dry tofu with paper towels. Cover tofu with 3-4 paper towels and carefully place a pan or other weight on top of towels to press down on tofu, leave for about 30 mins. This is to get rid of the excess moisture. After drying, cut the tofu into 16 pieces.
Mix all ingredients for sauce in a small bowl.
Heat up some oil in a pan, pan fry tofu cubes until all sides are browned. Or you can deep fry the tofu.
Leave a bit of oil in the pan, add garlic, ginger and only the white parts of the green onion. Fry until fragrant.
Add in fried tofu cubes and the bowl of sauce. Mix.
Reduce heat to simmer until sauce thickened. Mix every now and then.
Spicy Sweet and Sour Tofu
Lastly, mix in the green parts of green onion, and sprinkle with sesame seeds if desired.
Enjoy!
